Effective waste management begins with cooperation among communities, experts, and international partners. Yulia Boboshko, Manager of the Vinnytsia Regional Development Agency, participated in a practical workshop organized by the Swedish-Ukrainian WM4U program, “Strengthening Municipal Waste Management in Ukraine,” held on March 10–11 in Ivano-Frankivsk.
Workshop participants discussed approaches to developing a waste management system in Ukraine, including cooperation among local communities, efficient resource use, and the implementation of circular economy principles. Particular attention was given to developing cluster-based approaches in waste management, which could serve as the foundation for future investment decisions.
Vinnytsia Oblast is one of the regions where a pilot cluster is being formed under the program. The work of such a cluster involves cooperation among communities to develop joint approaches to waste management and to prepare a cluster concept and local waste management plans.
In addition to the workshop, a meeting of the Program’s Advisory Board was held on March 12, during which participants discussed next steps for implementing the initiative and developing cooperation between regions.
The WM4U Program – Strengthening Municipal Waste Management in Ukraine is funded by the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by Avfall Sverige in partnership with SALAR International.
